Mount Matterhorn is one of the most recognizable peaks in the world. Even just seeing it in photos, there’s something about it that stands apart. Rising 14,692 feet above Zermatt Switzerland, it has a near-perfect pyramid shape with four sharp ridgelines that make it such an iconic landmark of the Pennine Alps.

When I'm working with wood, my main focus is the structure and presence of the mountain itself. With this piece, I was looking to capture the steep faces, the contrast between rock and snow, and that unmistakable silhouette. Each section in this three dimensional layered piece was cut, shaped, and poured by hand to bring out that depth and texture in a way a flat image never could.
