"Rainier"

Regular price $1,325.00 $0.00

The first time I saw Mount Rainier I was in the air flying into Seattle. I looked out the window to see this massive, snow-covered volcano rising far above everything else. It didn’t look real the way it completely dominates the landscape around it.

I wanted to capture that same feeling of scale and presence here. Unlike other mountain peaks in the Cascades, Rainier isn’t about sharp edges. It’s very broad and powerful with layers of snow and rock that feel like they just keep stacking upward. I added a low alpine lake, the rolling green foreground, and that warm sun breaking across the sky to show just some of the great beauty Washington and the PNW are known for. Each section in this three dimensional layered piece was cut, shaped, and poured by hand to bring out that depth and texture in a way a flat image never could.

I don’t make many like this. If you’ve seen it from the air or stood anywhere near it, you know how it stops you for a second. If it’s still on your list, this is the kind of piece that keeps that pull alive.

Composed of: Epoxy resin (alpine lake), 200+ pieces of reclaimed weathered barnwood, African Gombe wood (sun rays), and maple (sun),
